About the choir...
Back To Home Page
We formed our Youth Choir (for 10 to 18s) in 1997, under the direction of Geoff Weaver and with Mike Elden as accompanist. Luise Horrocks was the choir's first vocal coach, and in September 2003 she was succeeded by Urszula (Ula) Weber. Ula has now relinquished the post, and her place has been taken by Susannah (Suzzie) Vango, who, like Ula, is a member of Ex Cathedra. The choir now has about 60 members, several of whom have graduated from the children's choir, Primary Chords. The choir gives its own series of concerts, as well as taking part in some of the Choral Society's concerts (for example, the Christmas Concerts, Britten's "St Nicolas", Handel's "Messiah" and, in 2005, "A Night at the Opera" and Britten's "War Requiem"). There is a full programme of other activities, and these include, every other year, a visit to the Continent for a concert tour. So far they have been to Germany, the Netherlands and Cyprus, and in October 2004 they made a memorable visit to Krakow and Zakopane, in Poland. Plans are now being made for a visit to the Continent in 2006, of which more details will be given later.
Wyre Forest Young Voices has become one of the premier youth choirs in the Midlands, and has received great critical acclaim. Former members of the choir have gone on to professional careers, or to sing in such groups as the choir of Wells Cathedral.
New members are always welcome.
Wyre forest Young Voices has earned itself an enviable reputation for excellence. Adjudicators in various competitions have written of the Choir's lovely blended tone quality and rhythmic vitality' and its 'polished presentation' and in 2002 the choir was named 'Choir of the day' in the Midlands, at the Sainsbury's 'Choir of the year' competition.

Recent tours have taken the choir to Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Cyprus, where our choir joined with other choirs and sang in very lovely places. A few months ago the choir undertook a very successful tour to Poland, with standing ovations in Zakopane and in a joint concert with the Krakow Boys Choir in the beautiful city of Krakow. Nearer to home the Choir has given recitals in Bath and Wells Cathedrals.
